There are several requirements to having domestic EV ChargePoint’s and these include: -
Domestic EV ChargePoint’s from Precision Electrical Services can be convenient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
By charging your EV whilst you are doing something else in the home or overnight whilst you sleep, will save you time and you will also be able to avoid public charging station queues. It is also considerably cheaper than using public chargers especially if you choose to use an off-peak energy tariff and EV’s are also known to contribute towards better air quality and a cleaner environment.
Types of EV ChargePoint’s available are 7kW and 22kW. They are also available with tethered or untethered cables. One that will be best suited to you will depend on the speed in which you need to charge, the power supply you have in your home and what type of cable you would like.
The 7kW EV ChargePoint’s are a popular choice that can charge an EV from empty to full in around 4-6 hours. The 22kW EV ChargePoint’s are faster but for home use require a three-phase electricity supply (providing heavy loads of electricity). A tethered charger has a cable permanently attached to the EV ChargePoint’s themselves and the untethered allows you to plug in any cable that fits a Type 2 socket (a charging plug for EV’s commonly used in the United Kingdom with 7 pins and a built-in locking mechanism).
The United Kingdom is currently offering grants to assist with the cost of installing EV ChargePoint’s at home. The EV ChargePoint’s Grant is available to renters or flat owners, and it can provide up to £350 or 75% off the cost of installation. However as previously mentioned you must have dedicated off-street parking and only one grant can be given per eligible vehicle and household.
The OZEV Grant (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles) is again available to people who live in a rented property or own a flat with dedicated off-street parking and this provides £350 off the cost of the purchase and installation of domestic EV ChargePoint’s.
