Full rewires require a lot of work and time to complete but have you heard of a partial rewire?
This would be recommended if you were updating one area of your home where the overall condition of your existing electrics are still in good condition. Has an area of your home become water or fire damaged? This would also require a partial rewire. At Precision Electrical Services in Walton-on-Thames, we can offer advice and help as to whether your home needs a full or partial rewire.
What is a partial rewire?
Unlike a full rewire, a partial rewire is where only a small area of your home will need its electrics upgrading. A partial rewire requires a trusted and qualified electrician to replace existing wiring, sockets and circuits within one area of your home e.g. a kitchen. The old electrics could be outdated or damaged and should be renewed to regulated safety standards. If you are renovating, it’s a good time to consider a partial rewire before you redecorate a room. This will save you time, mess and money in the future. Or if you want to add additional circuits like extra lighting or a new shower circuit then a partial rewire would also be required.
Do I need a partial of full rewire?
Inviting a qualified electrician to your home, they will carry out an electrical installation condition report (EICR) to determine whether a partial or full rewire is recommended for your property. There is no set rule for when a partial or full rewire would need to be carried out, but an electrician will be able to examine your existing electrical work to see whether they are in overall good condition.
Overtime your electrics will grow old which can lead to wear and tear, damage or corrosion. If you experience any of the following: electrics shocks, burning smells or flickering and dimming lights then it is vital to get an electrician to check it straight away. A partial rewire would be carried out to fix any electrical damage making your home safe once again. Do not ignore any signs of electrical damage in your home, electrics are dangerous and need to be fixed as soon as possible to stop the risk of hazards such as fires or shocks.
If there has been an extension to your home, by yourself or a previous owner, then some of your electrics will be newer than others. Depending on the outcome of your electrical report, the older parts of your home may require a partial rewire if it’s been some time since they’ve been updated.
